How to apply for Smart Driving License Online – Kerala Smart Driving License
Recently the Kerala RTO announced an update on a new smart driving license. Now every license holder can easily update it from an older version of the laminated card to the new smart card.
Over 1300 Road Transport Offices (RTOs) have been computerised with help from the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH). Driving licences and registration certificates are issued by RTOs and are recognised nationwide, with some exceptions and restrictions.
In order to guarantee interoperability, accuracy, and timely availability of information, it was important to specify identical standards for these papers on a pan-India level due to the considerable disparities in state policies and manual/system-based procedures being followed across the country. A SCOSTA group specifically formed for this reason had proposed nationally standardized software. The Ministry has thus delegated to the National Informatics Centre (N.I.C. ), in addition to compiling data regarding Vehicle Registration and Driving Licences across all states in State Register and National Register, the responsibility of standardizing and deploying two software (VAHAN for Vehicle Registration and SARATHI for Driving Licences). With modifications to the basic product to meet the needs of 36 States and UTs, the applications VAHAN & SARATHI were conceived to capture the functions as needed by the Central Motor Vehicle Act, 1988, and State motor vehicle Rules.
